CYBERNATURALS: A Journey Through Light, Myth, and Machine

In the dimly lit corridors of Central Saint Martins’ third floor, a realm of mythological echoes and speculative futures emerged under the title Cybernatural. This immersive group exhibition, part of the 2024 BA Fine Art Final Show, transformed rooms C302A, C302B, and the adjacent 2D exhibition space into a multi-sensory landscape where light, rather than being an ambient element, became the guide through darkness.

Inspired by the intersection of science fiction, mythology, and technological evolution, the exhibition invited visitors to traverse surreal portals into alternate dimensions—spaces where nature meets code, and where human presence merges with machinic logic. The environment itself was deliberately left without overhead lighting, plunging the audience into near-total darkness. In this sensory vacuum, carefully orchestrated beams of projection and ambient screens acted as the only sources of illumination, pulling viewers from one narrative to the next.

Far from passive observers, audiences were encouraged to become co-creators within the narrative, shaping meaning through movement and interaction. Whether facing holographic apparitions, AI-generated simulations, or myth-infused digital artifacts, the viewer’s presence became part of the work’s activation—highlighting the exhibition’s central inquiry: What does it mean to be human in a world increasingly governed by machines, signs, and symbols?
