Curated by a group of students from Central Saint Martins, EMPRETREMENT (FR, translation: Entanglement) converges sculpture, painting, moving image, photography and writing in an exploration of agency and commodification.

About

The majority of humanity has experienced propinquity between states of existence. Life presents opportunities to commingle love and hate, empathy and insensitivity, self-defense and murder, democracy and dystopia; positions so closely juxtaposed that lines can often be blurred. Perspectives and circumstances demonstrate these juxtapositions as examples that seem mutually exclusive or even antithetical, yet all are ineffably aware that all never truly absolute.

Developed by current students at Central Saint Martins, EMPÊTREMENT explores these spaces of dissonance, where things feel ever so familiar and yet are markedly dissimilar, to the extent of instability. All participants are mostly new acquaintances who converged for this project; all have diverse interests and practices, and will develop work based on their own interpretation of the theme which will intertwine and establish within the project space. The atmosphere applied by this unique chemistry will offer a unique perspective of the phenomenon where mutual exclusivity convolute with one another collectively within the periphery of confinement. Some participants may work individually, or as a group. Expected outcomes include but are not limited to paintings, sculptures, soundsscapes, moving images, installations and performances.
